Toshiba says to send it in for repair (at customer cost) and as there is no receipt (item was a gift) customer must pay labor charges. We used it only a couple of times before the DVD drive began making noises. About 9 months later, after light use (estimated 20 hours) the DVD stopped spinning entirely.
For the money, you definitely should buy an extended service plan or a cheaper dvd player. Have to keep turning it on and off to get it to work and sometimes it won't continue to play the dvd. The player is good when it works, but unless you can afford to keep replacing it, it's not worth the money. Bought this dvd player for airplane use. Started freezing up and skipping while playing dvd's within the first year of use.
Not a problem for this DVD player. Great picture, long battery life(about 5 1/2 hours) and easy to use. This was definetly one of the best DVD players for the size and price. Never had 1 Issue with it. Definetly recommend to anybody wanting a portable DVD player. I'm currently deployed to Iraq, and have had this DVD player for the last 10 months. The conditions are dusty and sometimes extremely hot.
This weekend, we again traveled and this time the DVD player wouldn't even attempt to read the DVD. Customer Service was of no help-we were told that we could send it in to be looked at for $100. That was the cost to send it in-to repair it would be an additional cost. We purchased this DVD player in September 2007 with the purpose of using it to keep our daughter entertained on long car rides. This was a complete waste of money. This past September, just a few days over the one-year warranty end date, we called customer service to complain about the poor quality. From the start, we had problems with it reading the DVDs. Once again, we were on a trip and it wasn't working.
I expected more from Toshiba. Then, although it was only used a couple of times, it stopped reading DVDs. It kept telling me to insert a disk when I already had one in. What a waste of money. I'm thoroughly disappointed. Battery never did charge and Toshiba told me to send it back to them. This player never worked properly. I didn't because for my purposes I could plug it in.
